Why are people so against Sunday Trading??? Lock Rss

Our town is getting Sunday Trading as of May and everyone I have spoken to has complained about it. I understand a few peoples opposition because they don't want have to work on sunday but quite a few of the complainers don't even work anymore. I heard one excuse that people won't go to Church but seriously if you go to church why would you stop going to go shopping? You could always go after lol.

Anyway it annoys me that people can't accept change without complaining, if you don't want to shop on sunday than don't, simple as that really.
I can't believe there are places that don't have Sunday trading! laugh
I love sunday trading. I get paid on a weekend so i rather shop on weekends.
i would love sunday trading, late night trading, anything other than what we have in perth!! we only have late night trading on thurs til 9, all other days most shops close at 5 or 5.30, no sunday trade allowed except in "tourism precincts" ie perth fremantle or mandurah/rockingham. so if you don't live near these places too bad. we are then forced to pay extra $$$ for essentials like milk/bread because we have only got the choice of IGA who have hardly any choice and ridiculous prices. its like living in the dark ages!!

i love perth because the weather is great but really i think we are way behind the rest of the country with things like this.

don't get me started on daylight savings either!! <img src='https://www.huggies.com.au/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

I totally agree with you!
It is the changing face of society, more people work shift and if you don't want to work weekends or Sunday in particular then look for a job in another industry that only needs you Mon to Fri!.
My job requires me to work any day or the week any hour, so day shift, afternoons, evenings and nights which finish at 7am, Sunday is the same as any other day of the week for me.
I know people worry about family time, and playing sport etc...but the rest of the world copes, why can't we??

That's the same as where I live atm, we had some massive 12 month debate in the community, there were petitions and questionnaires and surveys lol it was terrible and now they are bringing it all the local newspaper is full of is how bad it is going to be for the sporting community, the church community, for small businesses who won't be able to open because they can't afford to pay people, for families etc etc.
I LOVE sunday trading even as a SAHM cos it means I can get out to the shops kid free! I can't imagine how much MORE I would love it if I worked Mon-Fri!
sorry (flame suit on) i HATE sunday trading. my DH works in retail so if we lose a guaranteed sunday off we lose most of our chance to catch up with friends as a decent sized gathering, and when i worked 24hour shiftwork we would have seen each other even less (and i have no issue in certain industries being 24hour- my job simply had to be there 24h a day).

at one point due to my shifts and his roster we were living in the same house but didn't see each other from sunday night to saturday night. if he had to work sunday it would have been 2 weeks where we didn't see each other.

sunday is the one day a week i am guaranteed to have where i actually have company and help with DD. my old roster was often 10-14 days straight and i will be pissed if he had to go onto that with no relief for me!

his job would get next to no penalties for working sundays (as it is no penalties for saturdays) so no bonus for working on the weekend when we could be seeing family and friends- we are involved with a 4wd group and we would lose that too.

i hate it and honesty can't understand how people can't just suck it up IT'S ONLY ONE DAY A WEEK!!!! if you can't shop around that too bad.

i'm sorry i'm bitchy but i'm seriously over people bitching about wanting to shop more- when shops are open so very much- mostly those who won't lose days with loved ones as a result of them being pathetic about the shops- find something else to do with your family.
I am not a fan of Sunday trading either personally

I think having to live without the shops for one day a week is not a bad thing wink
I don't care one way or the other, but I do feel for the small business owners. The only places that benefit from extended trading are big businesses - Coles, Wollies, Havey Norman etc

so so so agree! I used to work in retail (time off for babies at the moment) and yeah yeah I know everyone works, but seriously Sunday is and should be 'family' day. Shop the other 6 days a week people! Oh and for the record I also think that on public holidays the shops should be closed too! It's like people think they cant survive if the shops are closed for a day! And I have lived in both Perth (no Sunday trade) and in Qld (with Sunday trade)... Perth - you arent missing out on much! Shopping on Sunday is the same as the other 6 days a week! LOL
I hate extended trading.
I have worked in hospitality and small business, the ONLY day I ever had off was Good Friday because you can't sell alcohol!
There is no reason for needing extended trading and it will mean the demise of small business. Seriously have you ever thought what the actually consequences will be? Outting church etc aside.
Do we really need to live at shopping centres?
