  4. Hi, my 18 month old has just started having huge tantrums when it comes time to change his nappy. Pooey nappies are worse than wet ones. He doesn't like his legs being lifted all of the sudden to wipe his bottom or change the nappy. He also freaks out

Answer: Hi, This is a common experience for lots of parents. By this age and stage the toddler is bigger and stronger of course, and nappy changing becomes an ordeal. The key can be to make it as quick as possible, to be very organised and have everything at hand ready to go. Some toddlers are better changed in the bathroom with a quick shower down. If you have a hand held shower nozzle this will help. Try using pull-ups rather than nappies which take longer to put on. Have a range of toys and special books for him to look at if he needs to lie down for nappy changes and praise him when he's being cooperative and reasonable. Something to snack on may work but be careful about the lying down aspect if he's eating. And if he poos in the bath just stick with your current approach of being calm and reassuring about it. He's still going through such an important transition phase of being so young and his brain becoming more mature. Best Jane
