Her poo is like mush! I do not know if it is a problem or if I should take her to see someone. She also has a problem with redness and sometimes a little rash on her face and frequent nappy rash. My dad has candida? Cannot eat gluten or dairy. Have tried taking her off dairy & gluten which did not have much affect.

Answer: Hi, If it's been six months since her bowel motions have been like this then yes, it is time to have her medically assessed. A good place to start is with your GP and then if necessary, a referral to a paediatrician and/or paediatric gastroenterologist. There are lots of reasons for runny poos, most frequently diet related but sometimes it's because of constipation and impaction of hard poo with the more liquid and runny poo flowing around it. There can also be a parasitic cause. Whatever the reason she does need to be checked out. It may help for you to keep a food diary for a couple of weeks before you have her seen. Another cause can be too much fruit juice or dietary intolerances or sensitivities but these are less likely. You will probably need to collect a sample of her poo for analysis and culture to see if her poo is growing any unusual bacteria or there's another cause. Candida is a yeast based organism and isn't related to coeliac which requires a gluten free diet or dairy intolerance which is generally due to lactose intolerance or cow's milk protein intolerance. Have your toddler checked and then you will find out the cause and the most effective way to manage it. Best Jane
