  4. My son has just turned 2, he normally does 1 poo a day sometimes 2, but in the last couple of weeks he has been doing 3 or 4 somedays more a day, its doesnt seem to be diarhea, we change him asap and use a good nappy rash creme, I havent changed anything

Answer: Hello, It could be due to a number of different causes, it's impossible to say without knowing more. But generally loose motions are due to diet, illness because of a viral or bacterial cause, too much juice/fruit/vegetables/fibre in the diet or recovery from a viral illness. Sometimes children can have what is known as "retention with overflow" which means their rectum is full of hard, dry poo and there is leakage of liquid poo around this impaction. So they are constantly soiling but never really emptying their bowels. A check with your GP may be useful and perhaps if the diarrhoea hasn't resolved by now, a sample for culture and microscopy.
