  4. I have a two and three quarter year old he refuses to go to sleep before 12pm at night. I also have a 1 1/2 years old who then thinks it ok to stay up as well. My two year old still has a day sleep but some days he doesn't but will fall sleep at about 5pm

I've tried to have a routine but this doesn't work either. The routine is tea, bath and then lay down with a milk and watch a movie.

Answer: Hi, On the days when he's waking so late after falling asleep at 5pm then this is bound to be having and effect on his settling time at night. Or do you mean he goes to sleep at 5pm and then sleeps through? I'm not sure as your email cut out before it was complete. But you'll probably find that he still needs a daytime sleep but just after an early lunch at 11-11.30 am is ideal and then have him up by 2.30-3pm at the latest otherwise you'll have lots of protests when it's bed time. And ideally, 7pm-7.30pm at the latest is a good time for both children to be in bed, after following a regular pre-bed ritual. What you're doing sounds fine but if they are up until 12MN then this really is far too late as you're finding. If changing your responses to the kids current behaviour is too challenging then perhaps you could ask your GP or CHN for a referral to an early parenting centre? Some intensive support and guidance about managing their sleep could really help you. It would also be beneficial if you checked the Huggies site for sleep and settling information for toddlers, there's lots of very good and comprehensive information contained there. Best Jane
