Bub`s head measured at 37 weeks 5 days, but I`m 34 weeks

Hi Alex, I`m 34 1/2 weeks pregnant now and have gestational diabetes. I had an ultrasound last week (33w 2d) and bubs head measured at 37 weeks 5 days. The rest of him was in the normal range. And they said his wieght was approx 5 1/2 pounds. Is this normal? Will it make hard to have a natural birth? OB said he will induce me on due date if I don`t go into labour before and said will have another ultrasound at 38 weeks and may have to have a c section.
Thanks Judith

Answer: Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. A baby`s birth weight and head circumference tend to be inherited from the family so you may have had a large head or your partner may have. Try not to worry too much as ultrasounds are not very accurate later in pregnancy as they tend to look at average figures and all babies are born at varying weights. If your baby`s head looks like it may fit through your pelvis, it will engage (drop down) from around 36 weeks. If it is too large it will stay mobile and not engage. Best wishes, Alex.
