Do you donate to charities? Rss

Hi everyone,
With a new baby, we're really feeling the squeeze financially and I feel really bad cutting out charities from our budget. Am I being a Scrooge? Are we going to get hit with bad karma??
Does everyone else donate to charity?
would love to hear what everyone else does!
I know what you mean - if you can't help yourself, how can you help others? I try to donate time instead of money, eg volunteer work and I've also joined an online program where every ad I click on means money goes towards charity.
Here's a link if you want to investigate

if link is not working, cut and paste this: sites.google.com/site/mummiesleetlehelper/charities
We don't regularly donate to charities but do make one off small contributions if we can. At Christmas we donate food and I buy a gift for a child of my own kids age and donate that to wishing tree.
No, I don't actively go out and donate to charities but I do put a couple of dollars in collection tins and have donated many good quality clothing and toys to the salvos.

Sometimes you have to just look after your family first until you can find a healthy balance smile
I tend to donate more to the Ronald McDonald House as this money (in NZ) goes to the accommdation used by the families in your area.

As we are on a budget I also have a policy of not over donating - for example the Christchurch earthquake I donated $3 for me, DF and DS - so $9 in total. Not much but the text donation was $3 and every lil bit helps.

I don't donate to certain charities as I feel they are over exposed and I need to put my family first.

Do not ever feel bad for no donating as someone else would have who hasn't before!

Double post!

I feel obliged to support every charity that has something for sale at the counter such as bandana's for bandana day, daffodils for daffodil etc because I know that my $2 of $5 doesn't compare with what some people are suffering. There are a lot of good causes out there and when my friends jump on the bandwagon of something and want to be sponsored, I always help out. I don't have a lot of money so it's usually just $10 or so, but all money does add up, and if our hearts are in the right place, every cent counts. A lady at my church put it well once, she said generosity is giving above yourself, not above your means. If you're down to your last $5, it's probably not wise to donate it when you have kids to feed. But if you stumble across a few extra bucks every now and again, I suppose a donation wouldn't hurt.

I dont donate at the moment as i cant afford it, but i do volunteer at ronald McDonald house 1 day a week. Its rewarding and i feel like i am contributing in some way by doing that.
You do what you can and if you cant afford to donate then thats ok.

We really only donate to the cerebral Palsy league- we have a donation tin on our kitchen bench and small change goes in. They collect the money every 3 months or so.

If someone comes to the door for the lifesavers or something I also do that.
thanks - now I don't feel so bad. Thanks equus for the link. I like the idea of money being donated when I click on ads. It makes me feel like I'm donating without forking out any cash!
