Ok i am SUPER P***ed! Rss

Anyone work in The Reject shop? Well dont coz if you have any career ambitions, you aint gunna get anywhere with them. (can you tell i dont like them?)

DP has been a manager with them for 10 years. 10 freakin years!!! Every store he has worked in has had good profit growth, perfect wages and hes had NO problems/complaints in his stores for the whole 10 years. Hes a model manager, and yes i am biased but seriously ask his bloody staff aswell. They will testify.

2 months ago he applied for the position of Area manager in Cairns. Hes been wanting to move north and also been wanting the be an AM for years so this was perfect oppotunity. Anyway he applied. Got a phone call from someone in HR saying they will email him a physc (sp?) test as they have done to all the applicants (which was 4 we know of). The email never turned up. So he rings the HR bloke who doesnt answer his phone and leaves a message saying he doesnt have it. This goes on for a few weeks until his current AM gets in contact saying they have sent it and DP says no he hasnt got it. He checks and double checks his email address on the application and its correct. So he still gets nothing. So each week hes ringing people to find out whats going on with the position. Most just say they will get back to him etc. Constantly leaves messages for the HR bloke saying he has no email. This goes on for 2 MONTHS!!!
FINALLY today the AM calls him and says the Divisional Manager has been trying to get in contact with him (bullshit as he hasnt had any phone calls from him!) and can he call him. So DP rings the DM and what do you know, "Oh we've already done interviews and the positions been filled."...

What a LOAD of BULL****! Ok so we are pissed he didnt get it, fair enough BUT the way they went around it all! He got no phone calls for an interview, he left messages with people who didnt ring him back, nothing. He got shunted to the side and ignored while they went and filled it. No doubt with someone from OUTSIDE the company (which is something they always end up doing even tho they advertise they like to promote inside the company)!

I am absolutely LIVID! We are wondering whether they actually sent the first email (he never recieved) at all!? Or if they had already made up there minds and just didnt say anything. They've done this before to him and others and i swear to god its f***ing ridiculous! Im ready to ring and have a serious word with the Managing Director of the company. How unprofessional is it of them NOT to notify him of ANYTHING! For 2 months this dragged on and we were hoping it would turn out successful. Im more angry about what they have done, not the fact he didnt get it.

So im currently looking for other jobs for him. After 10 yrs with the company you would think he might have a bloody chance at moving up. And hes on crappy pay aswell so its not even worth him being there. He can get paid more and work less being an ALDI assistant manager. How the hell does that work?

Theres more to it i just cant be bothered writing, i just needed to get this out. Im so upset and angry for him. I see how much effort and hours he puts into his job and he gets nothing for it. Not even the decency of a phone call. God i could rip some heads at the moment.

Thanks for reading if you got this far!

(if i could of had more swear words in this i SO would of tongue )
Wow thats really bad. I dont blame you for being pissed. Does he have long service leave entitlements now (usually get them after 10 years) . If so he should take them and find a new job. Do waste time with those rejects anymore.

Yeh he does. Actually its 11 yrs this month hes been with them. Hes been looking to take some time off recently so im trying to convince them he might aswell look elsewhere while hes off LOL. But i think hes too much in his comfort zone sad I keep looking at ALDI and he can work there at a 2ic and get paid as much as $25,000 more a year! How freakin unfair is that! LOL So i reckon he should change but its all depends on him. I just dont want to see him still in the same bloody position in another 10 yrs time. He said he cant do it coz his body wont cope with it (physically, he has a few recurring injuries) so he needs to eventually be in something less physically demanding.
Argh!!! sad
I'd be so PO'd too! The trouble with companies like that is they forget who built them up (I must admit here though - I had to google them cos I live in nz).

11 years is a long time to work any where these days and I'm sure there will be another company (like ALDI - which I also had to google) who will recognise and reward such loyalty. I hope you can convince him to move on and good luck with finding some thing else where such efforts as his are truly appreciated.

Thanks hun,

Im hoping he will realise theres just no future there and will move on. But hes a creature of habit and i cant see him changing, but i can hope LOL He works approx 50 - 60 hrs a week, most 12 hr days and DOESNT get paid for it (being on a salary) but he puts in the extra effort because hes the manager. Thats the way he sees it. And i know there are other managers in the company who DONT put the extra effort in yet they seem to get things come to them. I say if your gunna work that hard you might aswell work somewhere that will pay you for it.

Fingers crossed!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
totally off topic but just asked 'the girls' if they'd heard from you...wondering how you were doing and all that. grin

I hope you & J can sort something out soon re his work....sounds like its time to move on, but men dont like being pushed out of their comfort zone. FX something great is just around the corner for him.

I'll send you a fb friend requesty thingo too.

this really sucks... i have studied HR and i know most companies that are large always advertise in house first and then if they can't fill the position they look outside the company...

maybe your partner should start looking for another position in a new company as it seems like they don't want him to go further...

it really gets my blood boiling when hard working people don't get the recognition and promotions that they deserve and it looks like your partner is a hard working employee that got caught up in the red tape.. (in other words the stupid HR department weren't doing their job properly)
Thats so rude! My work does that too and i work for a massive company!

P.S I just saw your ticker, OMG!! Congratulations! What a surprise grin grin grin

Thanks rach, I accepted your request (i think lol i cant remember bahaha. ill check)

I would love for him to get another job but i seriously think hes in his comfort zone too much. He used to work at woolies and i said why dont you just go back, coz even they pay more as dept managers.

If he left his job he'd probably get a significant payout... my DH is leaving his, because has a new one. He's been in that job for 7 years, and when he leaves he'll get his owed annual leave paid out, as well as his long service leave - that will total around $13,000 for him. I am looking forward to it lol even though we will just put the bulk of it off the mortgage.

I guess if he isn't keen on changing jobs then you can't really convince him... it needs to have been his own decision (a trait that seems to be common amongst men, and has been a source of irritation for me at times <img src='https://www.huggies.com.au/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> ) but if you can sort of mention positives here and there, he'll start to think about it seriously? Especially if you want to move to Cairns, I'm sure he could find a good job there with another company.
sound similar to what my DP went through before moving where we are now and changing jobs, but at his previous job of 8yrs he always got looked over because he was too good at his job and they knew if they moved him up tehy coudlnt replace him...then who woudl do all the work he did? and the fact he wasnt one of their cousins or brothe ror best mate or any other joe they would get in for the job!

goodluck on your hubbys job hunting smile
