Getting pregnant while breastfeeding Rss

Hi,

I have an 11month old and would like to fall pregnant again but unfortunately just found out I am not ovulating even though I have been getting my period for over 6 monthd regularly every 29days.

I believe its the breastfeeding and this is the one thing I havnt tried yet as I wanted to breastfeed for 2 years.

So I am going to wait until she is 1 years old then slowly wean so it is as smooth as possible for both her and I.

Any ideas on how to wean as easy as possible when both I and my baby love this time more than anything??? Im dreading it, but really would like another baby soon, as we want a big family.

Thanks

Hi there, I ended up just slowly introducing formula when my son was six months old I would give one or 2 bottles a day to start with. The reason I did it was because I found out I was pregnant and wanted to have a break from breastfeeding before my baby was born. The transition was easy just need to give it time smile

Hi

I breastfed my daughter until she was 19 months and fell pregnant with my son when she was 10 months old. I also breastfed my son until he was approximately 2 years old (December 2009) and also fell pregnant twice during this time (miscarrying the first pregnancy & currently 24 weeks pregnant).

My suggestion is to keep trying if you're not quite ready to give up breastfeeding yet because it is possible to fall pregnant whilst still feeding.

Hope all goes well.
Thankyou for the comments, its good to hear different ideas and its great to know that you fell pregnant with your youngest two while still breastfeeding. I think for the moment I will give it a couple more months then, as I really do not feel ready to stop breastfeeding and if I get stressed by stopping, its probably only going to be harder to fall pregnant anyway. Thanks guys.
Hi there,

I was fully breastfeeding my newborn and i fell pregnant when she was 6 weeks old!

I think when your body is ready to carry another baby it will tell you! Im not sure if i beleive that breastfeeding can work as a contraceptive!

Have fun xx

Hi ladies,

I have to add that I was a little shocked to hear so many ladies were trying to get pregnant while breastfeeding.

I have known my obstetrician for years and I know he tells all of his patients that if they want to get pregnant they have to stop breastfeeding or at least stop once they are pregnant. Apparently your body has to produce different hormones to breastfeed than the hormones for pregnancy and a womans body cant produce both at the same time.

Obviously, like all parenting decisions, it comes down to the individuals choice but my suggestion would be to speak to your doctor and ask for their advice first - besides, they know your medical history and would know whats best for you.
