can i choose to have a cesarean?
i am a type 1 diabetic and would prefer to have a planned cesarean to avoid the stress and possible complications of a natural birth/emergency cesarean.
my obstectrican tells me that it is not my choice and that i must have a medical reason to have one. is this true?
A caesarean is a more complicated surgical operation and holds more risks to women and their babies than a normal birth. This is why it is recommended that women try to have a normal birth over a casearean. It does appear that a normal birth is more complicated but it prepares the baby for the outside world and it also helps you cope with the process of childbirth. It just takes longer. Try not to get too worried and talk to your health care professionals about your planned care during pregnancy and labour and then you may feel a bit better informed about what lies ahead.
