Baby girl who suffers from reflux and collic

Hi Maree, I have a 8week old baby girl who suffers from reflux and collic. I was wondering approximately how many hours a day she should sleep as at the moment its lucky if she sleeps for 10. Thanks for your time!

Answer: Hi Alicia, All babies are different but you might expect she sleeps 12 to 16 hours during one day. The best thing you can do is follow a feed/play/sleep program and this will allow you to feed when she wakes (and due) play and then watch for tired signs and settle her wake into the cot as soon as these tired signs as displayed. A good feeding routine is 2,6,10,2,6,10 1. This will help with the colic and reflux not feeding right before a sleep- wrapping also helps. 2. Will allow you to see the tired signs easily knowing she has been fed already and an over tired baby is harder to settle. 3 Will stop her falling asleep while feeding and allow you to settle her awake into the cot teaching her to sleep independently. I hope this helps, Maree
