The problem is her staying asleep

Hi Maree,
I have a 13 1/2 month old who has never been a great sleeper at night, she goes to bed easily and without much fight and I always leave the room whilst she is awake and on the brink of falling asleep and also in complete darkness. Her bedtime is between 7.30 - 8pm. The problem is her staying asleep through to 6.30am which is the time I get her ready for daycare, she wakes early in the mornings at the same times each morning (1.45am and 3.30am) and is very loud with crying and shaking of the cot, she is not teething and in good health. I usually go in there as soon as I am woken by it, however I do let her cry a little to see if it is consistent and not just a call out. We have tried every trick and tip there is out there and nothing seems to be working, both my husband and I work fulltime and its def taking it toll on both of us. She is very difficult to settle once she wakes and everything from rocking to patting, bottle and nappy change to even letting her settle in our bed for 15mins is no longer working.
Please Help

Answer: Hi Ashleigh, Sometimes we try so many tricks and ideas that we only succeed in confusing baby and ourselves about how and when baby falls asleep. Even though she settles well for you in the initial settling she may still thing you are present and then you are not there when she wakes later . Even though it would be more of a fuss at bedtime I would recommend you follow our settling program initially and then use the techniques to resettle her later in the night. This program is not easy and may take a good week of effort but keep in mind what you are doing now is definitely not easy either and ALL will be happy when you have her sleeping. Cheers, Maree
